Student Life and Support
Studying at Cambridge means you'll be learning from world-leading experts and have access to cutting-edge resources, but that's far from all the University has to offer! Living in Cambridge means you'll be in a beautiful, historic city with a very active student population, and a lot of choices for extra-curricular activities to get involved in.
Much of your student life will happen in and around your College. Each College has its own social culture, so it's worth thinking about what you want when choosing which College to apply to. Colleges also have sports, music, and drama groups, as well as common rooms where you can relax with friends. You'll likely spend some of your time living in College, too, so make sure to check out what accommodation they have available.
Outside of College, Cambridge University has numerous clubs and societies to join, ranging from one of our 75 sports clubs to the 100’s of student societies featuring amateur dramatics groups, scientific societies, and much more. It will be tempting to sign up for everything that interests you during freshers week, and it's always great to try as many things out as you can—just try not to overwhelm yourself! Over time, you will find out what you enjoy most and where your closest friends are.
Support:
Cambridge and the Natural Sciences Tripos have a reputation for being a high-pressure environment, so it is important to think about taking care of yourself while studying and allowing time for relaxation. There is a variety of support available through Colleges and Departments to help you make the most of your time at Cambridge.
The University provides a range of support services including counselling, metal health advice and crisis support. Additionally, many of our students (at least 20%) have a disclosed disability. The Accessibility and Disability Resources Centre can provide advice and support for those with a disability, or if you think you have a disability. We strongly encourage early disclosure of any additional needs when you apply so we can ensure we are supporting you through the selection process and from the day you arrive.
